Action for Relief and Development Assistance (AFREDA) is a Tanzania, National, Voluntary, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), whose purpose is to promote the livelihood, health, nutrition, income, education and agricultural practices of poor men, poor women and poor children in Tanzania, East Africa, through facilitation and implementation of integrated community development projects and programmes.
AFREDA has been implementing community Development Programmes in Tanzania since 1990 touching lives of more than 1 million people directly and indirectly in the regions of Tanga, Lindi, Coast, Morogoro, Tabora, Mara, Kilimanjaro, Kagera, Rukwa, Simiyu, and Dar es Salaam and in Unguja and Pemba. Since its inception AFREDA has successfully implemented 27 Development projects in Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar. Currently, we are implementing a project titled socio-economic empowerment of communities in the regions Tanga and Lindi continuation.
AFREDA target groups are People Living with AIDS, caretakers of AIDS orphans, interest group members (farmers groups in Lindi), school children, out of school girls, community leaders, farmers, rural community members in the villages, diarists, theatre group members, vulnerable women entrepreneurs. AFREDA’s main approaches include: on-site training, use of theatre, use of school clubs/back home, people own process (POP), exchange learning visits as well as use of educative materials i.e. brochures, pamphlets and T shirts. AFREDA works in close cooperation and partnership with village Governments (local government in rural areas).

AFREDA envisages a Tanzania free of poverty by the year 2030.
